Old Wives Tales
Granny Cures
Can A Spoon Full of Sugar Help the Medicine Go Down?
If you are old enough you'll recognize this title from the famed movie "The Sound of Music". Gosh I'm dating myself :-)
However, the question still begs to be answered. Does a spoonful of sugar really help awful tasting medicine go down?
It's an age old question, and the debate will likely never be settled because the plain truth is that it all depends.
We are all unique and it's our uniqueness which sets us apart. What might work for you may be a disaster for me. My friend Jean can't be within 5 feet of peanuts before she'll start itching. I can’t tolerate rose water in any form, it gives me a headache. However, peanuts are a nearly perfect food nutritionally and rose water has been used for centuries in foods, cosmetics and medicine.
So it goes with Old Wives Tales, the cures and remedies go from the use of candles to clean out ear wax, to putting a dirty sock around your neck to quickly cure a sore throat - oh my! And the people who believe in these remedies have passed them down from generation to generation.
Some of these remedies and treatments where discovered quite by accident, others are rooted in Native American culture. The vast majority of them have been altered as they have passed from one to the other.
The bottom line is that these remedies are simply fun and at times useful.
I've gathered some modern Granny Cures. You can download and print them for
